Early childhood education center adding up to 70 new child care spots in Montrose

MONTROSE, COLORADO (February 5, 2022) – Maslow Academy of Applied Learning, a locally-based early childhood center in Montrose, announced today its plans for expansion.

The non-profit organization is set to grow into nearly 6,000 square feet in the new Flex Buildings within the Colorado Outdoors campus, adding up to 70 new childcare spots as part of the multi-tenant project near the Uncompahgre River. The new site will be called Bright Beginnings at Colorado Outdoors and will serve infants to preschoolers.

Maslow expects to open the new center in the summer of 2022, which will serve as a second location to their existing location on Hillcrest Drive. Independently owned and operated since 2009, Maslow is known statewide for running its quality programming focused on working families. Maslow is also able to serve households who qualify for the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCCAP) due to generous local, regional and statewide grant support.

“Our team has been exploring expansion options for many years, and it’s been clear the need is growing and becoming more urgent,” said Chrissy Simmons, Executive Director of Maslow Academy.

“The new center at Colorado Outdoors allows us to add capacity and support more Montrose families. We couldn’t do this without the support of our project partners.”

The project build-out costs are made possible by the collaboration between local government, private businesses and several non-profits. Partners include the City of Montrose, the Buell Foundation, the Bacon Family Foundation, the Montrose Community Foundation, the Montrose Urban Renewal Authority, and several local private supporters.

“It is great to see Maslow expanding,” said City Council Member and Mayor Doug Glaspell. “It just goes to show what a good idea, great service, hard work and dedication to a business will do to make it successful.” Glaspell also noted Maslow started off small, and has continually expanded over the years by “meeting the needs of our community and its working parents.”

Maslow will be one of several partners in the new development project.

“Our team is looking forward to welcoming new families. We believe all children deserve a strong start in life with loving care, developmentally appropriate programming, and a culture that involves families,” added Simmons. One of the main goals of the Colorado Outdoors project is to bring like-minded outdoor companies together, and Maslow “is a great fit on many levels” said Colorado Outdoors founder David Dragoo. “The local workforce will have a place for their children, which is amazing and very much needed.” The 160-acre master-planned site has over 40-acres of open space and includes an array of walking trails, wildlife corridors, and a newly upgraded river restoration project for river recreation activities.
